Welcome to Virtual Hoboken

Virtual Hoboken is a project to produce a "virtual" walk through Hoboken, NJ.

The idea is fairly simple. When you start, you are at the PATH station in Hoboken, a place where many people first enter Hoboken.

At each location, you will see a screen with three photos in it. The one in the center, which is larger, is the "current" view. To the left and right are half-sized views of what you'll see if you turn left or right. Below the photos are hyperlinks to turn around and (usually) back up.

To help you figure out where you are, I have a map of Hoboken available.

At any point in time, you can go forward by clicking on the center picture (unless it doesn't have a hyperlink border around it, in which case you can't go in that direction, either because there is no path that way or you've reached the current limits of my database). If you click on the left or right picture, you will turn in that direction but stay in the same place. If you click on Turn Around, you will, well, turn around. Back up, when available, causes you to back up in the database -- walk backwards, after a fashion.

So, to get started, click here!

Notes:

The PATH system (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) is a subway that connects New Jersey and Manhattan (New York City). From Hoboken, there are trains which run downtown, to the World Trade Center (in the financial district), and uptown, to 33rd Street (in front of the Macy's).
